# Noise Indicator

The noise indicator shows how far the player can be heard right now. It picks the loudest of:

* **Movement**: sneaking, walking, running and jumping
* **Voice**: the voice range of pma-voice, SaltyChat, mumble-voip or TokoVOIP while talking
* **Weapons**: gunshots and suppressed shots, kept on screen for a moment
* **Vehicles**: engine noise that grows with speed, motorcycles, bicycles, boats, helicopters and planes
* **Horn and crashes**

## Radius

`Config.Noise.Radius` holds the distance in meters for every source. Vehicles go from `vehicle` (idle) to `vehicleMax` (top speed). When the voice script reports its own distance (pma-voice does), that distance is used instead of `whisper`, `voice` and `shout`.

`Config.Noise.Hold` is how long short noises stay on screen in milliseconds (`shoot`, `crash`, `horn`, `jump`).

## Using the noise in other scripts

The radius is useful for zombie, stealth or police scripts:

```lua
local noise = exports['daddy-hud']:GetNoise()
-- noise.radius (meters), noise.source ('run', 'shoot', 'vehicle' ...), noise.active
if noise.radius > #(GetEntityCoords(zombie) - GetEntityCoords(PlayerPedId())) then
    -- the zombie heard the player
end
```

Another script can override the indicator, for example for a radio or a music box:

```lua
exports['daddy-hud']:SetNoise({ radius = 25, source = 'padMusic', label = 'BOOMBOX' }, 5000)
exports['daddy-hud']:SetNoise(nil) -- back to the built-in estimate
```

Set `Config.Noise.Enabled = false` to drive the indicator only through `SetNoise`.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://daddy-studios.gitbook.io/daddy-studios-docs/scripts/daddy-hud/noise-indicator.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
